William “Laury” Lawrence Herndon, 83, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and esteemed friend, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Laury served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Born and raised in Florida, he had a passion for fishing, hunting and water-skiing. After his service in the navy, he returned to the University of Florida to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for the Florida Power and Light Company for 33 years, stationed in the Miami, Lake City, and Daytona Beach offices during his FPL tenure, and retired in 1991. He and his family spent dozens of summers traveling the country, visiting virtually every national park. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Maxine, two daughters, Shelba and Gina, three sons Victor, Brian and Keith, nine grandchildren, Katisha, Danielle, Nicole, Megan, Lauren, Olivia, Jonathan, Julia and Andrew, and one great-grandchild, Gabriel. A celebration of life will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 1014 North Halifax Avenue in Daytona Beach on August 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
