Obituary for David W Hull

David W Hull
David W. Hull

“Strike up the band, assemble the choir, another soldier’s coming home!”

If you knew him, you loved him. Dave joined the Heavenly choir Tuesday morning, February 21st, 2017. He was born in Perry County, Ohio, 1932.

He moved to Holly Hill in 1964, and later with his brother, Rev. Virgil E. Hull, began the ministry of the United Brethren in Christ Church (UBIC Holly Hill). He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1952-54.
Dave dedicated his life to serving The Lord and sharing his faith. He truly had a servant’s heart and a generous spirit.

Over the years he served at UBIC Holly Hill as youth director, choir leader, song leader, Sunday school teacher, director of 3-Score traveling ministry, manager of Greater Love retirement center, as well as the Price is Nice Thrift Store. In later years, Dave was the prayer minister of the UBIC Holly Hill Food Pantry and served as a Deacon of the church, and held a permanent Lay minister’s license. He also enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen, of 61 years; 3 daughters, Vicki McKeown (Chuck), Brenda Budzilek (Chris), Edie Shadle (Scott); 7 grandchildren, Matt Mckeown (Kara), David McKeown (Cindy), Josh McKeown (Julie), Alex Budzilek (Emily), Kinzi Budzilek, Abby Shadle, Andrew Shadle and 9 great-grandchildren; brother Rev. Virgil E. Hull (Mary) of Bat Cave, NC; Sister-in-law Ethel Hull of Holly Hill; and a huge loving family of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. His father and mother, Albert and Beulah Hull, and younger brother, Donald E. Hull, preceded Dave in death.

One of Dave’s passions was leading the youth to a relationship with Jesus. He spent countless hours playing basketball with them, softball, and numerous fishing trips. It was always Dave’s desire for the church to have a gymnasium.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, March 5th, 3pm at United Brethren Church Holly Hill, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the gymnasium project of UBIC Holly Hill, 560 Flomich St., Holly Hill, FL 32117. Condolences may be shared for the family at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
