A memorial celebration for Joe Frank Lowe, Sr., 82, who passed away May 13, 2017 in Ormond Beach, FL, will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, 129 4th Ave. Buena Vista, GA. Joe was born and raised in Buena Vista and later attended, graduated and received his master’s degree from Mercer University in Macon, GA. While at Mercer, he played on the basketball team, but more importantly he met and fell in love with his beloved wife of 60 years, Janet Harvey. He then joined and served with the U.S. Army Airborne Division. After Joe’s service with the Army, he became a professor and basketball coach at Woodward Academy in Atlanta. During this time, Joe also became a proud father and developed a strong bond with the founding family (Truett Cathy) of Chick fil A. In 1978, he moved to Ft. Walton Beach and became the owner/operator of 2 Chick fil A restaurants. He retired in 2001, but always considered himself as part of the Chick fil A team. An avid sports fan, Joe played golf and tennis throughout his life. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Survivors besides his wife, include 3 daughters, Jill Tapia, Jessie Elliott and Jeri Walters; 2 sons, Joe Jr. and Nicholas; 3 sisters, Sally Askew, Merry Taylor and Judy Wells; 6 grandchildren, Brecken, Isabelle, Samantha, Rylee, Jan-Michael and Grace; 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Harper and Burgin.
